Art At Work!

Recently, Anne Mathisen ("Aunt Anne") has been putting me to work. She has commissioned me to do projects that she will use for her work in the insurance business. First, she commissioned me to do a welcome sign for her first time home owners event. Second, she asked that I'd make a sign to let customers know when she'd be back in the office. We did the top part of the sign saying, "I'll give you the best insurance rate ever!... When I return:" and the bottom part of the sign is chalk board paint, so she can write with chalk when she will return. Two unique and fun projects Aunt Anne! Thanks for including my art at your work! :)

Gift Idea For A Grieving Friend!

I recently had two commissions that were very similar: A pet portrait, as a gift, for a friend who had recently lost their furry companion! Thank you Alyssa and Megan for keeping me in mind! I hope the painting will help each of your friends cope and bring them some joy!

Congratulations Anne & Mike!

A sticks inspired wedding gift for my dear friend Anne!
I love the opprotunity to do something different. I have never worked like this with chalk before and it was such a fun way to help contribute to their wedding! Thank you so much for thinking of me for the chalk board and letting me be a part of special & amazingly fun day! Love you guys!

I am so Excited to Announce My First Sale From the eGallery!!!!!

I am so happy to announce my first sale from my little "eGallery" at http://www.studiokmath.com/ . In the past I have made only commissioned painting's. Commissioned painting's, donations and gifts are very exciting and I always appreciate the support... However, it is the best feeling to paint simply because you were feeling inspired. To paint without a deadline or real purpose other then... I just felt like "coloring", is a wonderful feeling.

I was so excited to recieve a message from a friend from grade school, Megan Marie Andrews, about her interest in one of my painting's!  I got the idea for this painting from a life model drawing I did my junior year in college. I literally drew hundreds of drawings of this particular model, but this drawing was one of my favorites. I am so happy to know that it stuck out to someone else as well.

Thank you Megan for your support and encouragement, it means so much to me! I hope that you enjoy your painting!

I am honored to still be a part of the Lawrence community!

This past weekend my husband, his family and I were in Lawrence to celebrate Andy's (my brother in law) graduation. I hold a special place for this truly wonderful city and the University of Kansas! It is where I achieved my  art degree, met Maggie, Katie and Julie (three amazing friends), found my "fur babies" (Cooper and Comear), had many struggles, many laughs and met my wonderful husband!  There is so much love, pride and strong sense of community in Lawrence.
One organization that have fell in love with is the Lawrence Humane Society. http://www.lawrencehumane.org/ This year I was approached to make a painting for the Lawrence Humane society's Mutt N' Strut event that was held on May 9th.  The event raised around $25,000.00 this year. http://www2.ljworld.com/news/2007/may/15/mutt_n_strut_raises_around_25000/
The Lawrence community truly is so amazing! Although I no longer live in Lawrence, I am so honored to still be a part of this community! Thank you so much for reaching out to me this year!

My New Favorite Subject: Celebrities!!!

I had the privilege to be a part of an Art Show on Thursday night. It was part of Denver's Weekend of F.A.M.E. and I thought it was a perfect time to start on my celebrity character painting's. Didn't say too much about the show for a few reasons:
1) It was on a Thursday night so I knew it be difficult to make for some.
2) I wasn't even sure I was going to have them finished before the deadline... Last week I was waking up at 4:00am so I could get a few hours of painting in before I left for work at 6:20. Then painted til' I fell asleep every night... I was exhausted!
3) I have never been a part of this event before so I wasn't really sure what it was or what to expect?.....

However, my friends Jennifer, Gina and Matt came to support me along with my sister, mom and husband! I did finish the painting's literally "in the nick of time" and I LOVED the event!

Thank you so much to my friends and family who came & thank you to event coordinators for letting my art be a part of this exciting event!

A Happy Place!

A close family friend commissioned me to do a folk art house painting, as a surprise for his wife. He will be giving it to her tomorrow, so I am just keeping my fingers crossed that she will enjoy it as much as I enjoyed this project! It was such a different subject then what I am used to,  but I love a challenge and I feel like I figured out a way to paint a house "Kami Style". I wanted to keep the painting a bit whimsy by adding the perry winkle drive way, neon trees and the bright blue lake and sky! Their house is so beautiful to begin with, but by adding the thick outline and fun colors I feel like it is just such "a happy place" and I feel so lucky to have had this opprotunity!

Coloring For My Niece's 1st Birthday Today!

The tweety bird inspired drawing was what I made for the kids to color at TBird's (my niece's nickname) birthday party today! The other picture is one I colored for her: "what are you doing?" "coloring a picture for my niece..." "huh?" "oh, she is turning one." (As if that was an explination as to why I coloring a picture for a baby? haha!) Really I just love to color and am  SO excited for my baby niece Teagan to turn 1 today! Happy " Bird day"! :)

My 2011 Collection!

For my (upcoming) birthday my mom and dad got me a fancy new easel, brushes, table and all new tools! I now have my work space set up in our office and I am ready to get started on my 2011 collection. I decided each year to have a collection featuring a different character and performing various activites within a very specific time sequence. My 2011 character is going to be named "Mary O." , but she refers to herself as "O Mary" :)  !  The time sequence will be:  A DAY! I will feature Mary O. acting out her daily routine: waking up, brushing her teeth, having her coffee on the patio,  working out, making dinner, doing her hair, etc.! I am currently working on finishing current commissions, brainstorming for my collection, painting the collection and browsing for a location to show it off! If you have any advice or suggestions I would love to your input. Please feel free to post a comment below.

My very 1st Blog!

WAH!!!!!!!! Had to let it out. I am so happy to be here and blogging! At 24 years old, I am now an Art graduate from the University of Kansas, a home owner and a wife!!! My next title I am hoping to achieve is a "known artist"! Anyone can call themselves an "artist", but to be a "known artist" or "known for your work" is a completely different story! I want people to see my art in homes, restaurants, boutiques, events, airports... EVERYWHERE!!! And say, "There's a piece by: Kami"! So cheers to 2011 and achieving my dream!
